VASTU TIPS

Cosmic Home
Vaastu is the study of design and construction of living environments that are in harmony with the physical and metaphysical forces/ energies of the cosmos such as the gravitational, electromagnetic and supernatural.
Though Vastu is conceptually similar to Feng Shui in that it also tries to harmonize the flow of energy (Also called Life-force, and Prana in Sanskrit, similar to Chi in Chinese) through the house, it differs in the details, such as the exact directions in which various objects, rooms, materials etc are to be placed.

Categories of Vaastu
Bhoomi - The earth, plot or site for the dwelling
Prasada - The structures on the Bhoomi
Yaana - Movable Objects like Vehicles placed on the Bhoomi
Sayana - Furniture placed inside the Prasada
As these categories suggest, the principles of Vaastu Shastra extend from the macro level to the micro level- site selection, site planning and orientation, zoning and disposition of rooms, proportional relationships between the various parts of buildings and the character of buildings.

Philosophy of Vaastu
Vaastu is based on the concept of space (subtle energy) as a dynamic element from which all objects of nature come into existence and into which all ultimately disappear. The frequency of vibration of this subtle energy, based on a particular rhythm or time measure, causes the birth and development of all objects of nature.
The main aim of vaastu is to create building spaces in harmony with nature. An architect trained in the science and technology of vastu and vaastu designs the building so that its vibrations are numerically equal to the vibrations of the occupants of the building which is determined by their birth stars.

Vaastu Purusha Mandala

The Vaastu Purusha Mandala is an indispensable part of Vaastu Shastra and constitutes the mathematical and diagrammatic basis for generating design. Purusha refers to energy, power, soul or cosmic man. Mandala is the generic name for any plan/ chart, which represents the cosmos metaphysically/ symbolically, a microcosm of the universe.
The Vaastu Purusha Mandala is a specific type of mandala used in Vaastu Shastra. It is the metaphysical plan of a building/temple/site that incorporates the course of the heavenly bodies and supernatural forces.

Directions and Deities

The principal deities of each direction (called the ashtadikpalar) are
Northeast - Ruled by Lord of all quarters or Eeshwara Siva
East - Ruled by Sun God - Aditya
Southeast - Ruled by Lord of Fire - Agni
South - Ruled by Lord of Death - Yama
Southwest - Ruled by ancestors
West - Ruled by Lord of water
Northwest - Ruled by Lord Of Winds
North - Ruled by Lord of Wealth
Centre - Ruled by Lord / Creator of the Universe

Vaastu and Yoga

Vaastushastra has a strong similarity to the principles of Yoga. Just as the prana flows freely through the body of a yogi, so is a Vaastu house designed to allow free flow of Prana within.
Vaastu Shastra believes that an ideal structure should always have a dynamic equilibrium of energy. Any serious disequilibrium will manifest as disharmony in life.
Vaastu Shastra firmy believes that each building - whether it is a house, a godown, a factory, or an office - is an organic whole where indiscriminate extensions/alterations/mutilations should not be carried out.

Main Entrance

As the passage for Prana (life-energy) to enter the building, the positioning of the door and the size of its opening are determined by special vaastu calculations to maximize positive flow. Front entry doors and rear entry doors are positioned in a straight line as it ensures the flow of energy in and out of a building without any obstructions. This energy tunnel is called the 'vamsa dandam', personifying the backbone. The material benefit of this is cross-ventilation while the spiritual significance is that solar energy enters the main entrance and exits through the rear door, ensuring an unobstructed and constant flow of energy.

Vaastu for Home

A home is not just a house to live. It is an extension of our mental space and a reflection of our personality.
Just as our aesthetic taste influences its design, decor and maintenance, similarly it too influences our moods, thoughts, bio-energy, behaviour, personal and social life, recognition, professional success; in fact, each part of our life is deeply intertwined with our home.

Vaastu for Office

Vaastu, when properly applied, can greatly contribute to the growth of a business.
When utilizing space planning or considering an expansion, Vaastu should be taken into account to minimize the negative effects of the building.
